The police have arrested seven suspected kidnappers said to have been terrorising commuters along Kaduna-Abuja highway.
The suspects are Ibrahim Gurgu, 45; Abdulazeez Idris, 40; Shuaibu Ibrahim, aka Kadi, 29; Ibrahim Isiyaku, 30; Usman Datti, 30; Kabiru Musa, 27 and Haruna Umar, 24 years old
Items recovered from them include one Ak47 rifle, a locally-made pistol; 30 rounds of live ammunition, one magazine, two military camouflage, three cutlasses and charms.
Parading the suspects on Thursday in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, said the men were apprehended by the police Special Forces deployed along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
Working on actionable intelligence, he said, the SF swooped on the kidnappers’ dens in Gwagwada, kangimi and katari villages in Kaduna State and arrested all the suspects.
“They volunteered confessional statements admitting to the various criminal roles they played in the kidnap for ransom of motorists, travellers and others innocent people along Abuja/Kaduna Highway. They will be charged to court on completion of investigation,” Moshood stated.
He gave the assurance that the police would sustain their operations against criminal elements across the country.
