UNILORIN STUDENT GIVES THE ANTIDOTES TO LAUTECH PROBLEM

LAUTECH AND ITS SUGGESTED SOLUTION

It saddens my heart each time I look back into the memory lane and digest on what used to be a great citadel of learning; LADOKE AKINTOLA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, popularly known as "LAUTECH". Especially, when one recollects how enviable this institution was among her peers back then.

LAUTECH was a dream of those who aspired for the best higher education, especially those in technological or science related fields, because the institution could be liken to "Havard or Oxford " of Nigeria around the time if I'm not exaggerating.

But Before I proceed, let me make a preamble in a glance on the history of "LAUTECH". This institution was among the pioneers universities of technology in the country, established in (1990) to be precised after series of deliberations led by the then Military governor of old Oyo state "Tunji Olurin".

This institution got her name after the Late premier of Western region "LADOKE AKINTOLA". It was basically established to promote and make a speedy rise in technology in the country.

This which I vibrantly believe the institution has been fulfilling until recent years; in which one can call black or dark years in the history of the institution. When her fortune was turned upside down.

I stand to be corrected, the whole brouhaha facing the institution, its root could be briefly traced back to the administration of "Otunba Alao Akala" a one time governor of Oyo state and his Osun state counterpart "Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola". This began when there was a heated ownership tussle as to who would be an outright owner of the institution.

The whole tussle started when the then Oyo state governor advocated for a total and complete take - over or ownership of the institution, in lieu of the existing joint ownership. This met a strong refusal from his counterpart in Osun.

The struggle lasted for awhile or should we say till the very end of the both administrations. It thus has a severe effect on the institution's smooth academic programme.

After the whole issue died down, many people believe that would be the end of the epileptic status of the institution, not until when the current and unprecedented crisis facing a once glorious university of technology.

The period when the center could no longer hold and things finally fell apart between the two owner states government; Oyo and Osun, and the institution's academic staffs over the latter unpaid salaries.

If Peradventure my analysis is not erroneously made, this lofty Institution has being on strike since "Sep 20, 2016", and all efforts to ensure the gray area between the disputants is harmoniously settled has proven futile. Even in spite of the recent plea by both governors of the owner states.

This has always been a dastardly experience to the supposed future nation's technologists, and if meticulous view is not judiciously done, it shouldn't be an surprise if the trend continues for the forcable future.

It is on this note I make a bold suggestion for a complete take-over of the institution by the federal government. If not for anything but to save the already scattering future of the youth and would-be renowned technologists and scientists per excellence. All these can only be an accomplishment if the federal government see a good reason why it is long overdue to take a full control of the institution; as this will also go a long way toward the revival of the nation's technology status.

LAUTECH has greatly suffered under the tutelage of these two owner states,  and it has dawn on us that nothing good can ever happen to this institution as long as these states retain the ownership.

Thus, in order not to continue wasting away brilliant dreams of the victims " students" with the whole hullabaloo, it is about time a total revolution is made to take place on LAUTECH issue by the federal government. And this should be done for good.

NOW WE SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
