#KenyaDecides: Orphaned and broke, 23 year old student becomes Kenya’s youngest MP (Member of Parliament) A 23-year-old student has been elected as a Member of Parliament in Kenya’s Igembe South constituency following Tuesday’s election beating political bigwigs who were in the race against him. John Paul Mwirigi vied as an independent candidate trounced rich political bigwigs including a former deputy governor. The third year university student ran his campaigns on a near nothing budget, only relying on a bicycle to transverse the wide constituency, and not even his opponents flashy cars could deter him from pursuing his ambition. Following his win, a jubilated Mwirigi said his first agenda would be to support agribusiness activities, promote entrepreneurship and nurture talents. Code-teaching app SoloLearn wins FbStart Apps of the Year competition

Facebook has announced its “FbStart Apps of the Year”, which is an event which recognizes the most successful apps from the global FbStart program. This year’s Grand Prize winner is SoloLearn ( iOS / Android ] which is a free mobile-first app for anyone who wants to learn how to code. SoloLearn’s CEO and Co-founder Davit Kocharyan came up with the idea for the app in his native Armenia, where most of their team is based, to teach coding to the local population. The app’s idea is to educate members through game mechanics, peer-to-peer sharing, and user-generated content. SoloLearn community members compete in head-to-head challenges and unlock hidden lessons. It offers 12 free courses, including JavaScript, Swift, Python, C++, and HTML/CSS.
